Default Replacement Windshield - exposed edge?

I just had my front windshield replace on 2007 tahoe. The top edge of glass is exposed with no gasket or protective covering. The installer (who was at my house) said this was normal for their glass. Seems very odd and have never seen a front glass like this. Anyone know if this is correct?

That's the way the original factory glass is. Makes a nice space to collect bug guts.
