So, when you reverse, the beeping gradually gets faster and faster and there is the fast beep within 6 inches of another object?

Mine beeps once at about 7'-8' and one lite comes on. Then as I get closer, another lite, then the third lite (red). When at about 1', it starts beeping like crazy. Read the manual and that's the way it's supposed to work.

Mine, not only doesn't work, but disengage light is lit up and it says that it is disengaged on the dash cluster. Went to the dealership today. They can't figure it out. Any help?

I just checked mine and that is exactly how mine works also -- I also can tell you that if you have a hitch with trailer ball inserted then the park assist will disable itself until it is removed.

Is it the hitch or the wiring plug that disables the system??

It is the hitch itself, no plug connected. Apparently it sees the metal from the ball or hitch as an obstruction and after a certain amount of time (it seems to be on a delay) it turns off the park assist and you will see the light remain on in the button on above the center console. I read something somewhere (might have been in the manual) about a trailer being hooked up as it sees it behind for too longalso and it will disable itself because if it didn't it would alarm all the time while towing.

My hitch does not affect the sensors. I back up to the trailer tongue and the beep frequency increases. I get within 6" of the trailer tongue on both my utility trailer and my boat. The system does disable eventually, but I've never paid attention to when. I'm certail its not the trailer hitch unless your hitch is a short drop maybe (mine is 8").

Not sure about the hitch thing. Here is what the manual states about the system.
When the System Does Not Seem to
Work Properly
If the URPA system will not activate due to a
temporary condition, the message PARKING
ASSIST OFF will be displayed on the DIC screen
and a red light will come on the URPA display
when the shift lever is moved into REVERSE (R).
This occurs under the following conditions:
The driver disables the system.
The parking brake pedal is depressed.
A trailer was attached to your vehicle, or a
bicycle or an object was hanging out of your
trunk during your last drive when you turned off
the vehicle. If the attached objects are removed
from your vehicle before the start of your next
drive, the system will return to normal operation
unless an object is detected when the vehicle is
shifted into REVERSE (R). If this occurs, URPA
assumes the object is still attached, so you will
have to wait until the vehicle is driven forward
above 15 mph (25 km/h) before URPA will
return to normal operation.
The ultrasonic sensors are not kept clean. So,
be sure to keep your vehicle’s rear bumper free
of mud, dirt, snow, ice, and slush. For cleaning
instructions, see
Washing Your Vehicle on
page 549
. If the DIC still displays the PARKING
ASSIST OFF message after cleaning the
bumper and driving forward at a speed of at
least 15 mph (25 km/h), see your dealer.
Other conditions that may affect system
performance include vibrations from a
jackhammer or the compression of air brakes
on a very large truck or other mechanical
devices that interfere with URPA performance.
When URPA is disabled without driver action
and the driver attempts to turn URPA back on,
the PARKING ASSIST ON option will not be
selectable if the necessary conditions stated
above for normal system operation are not met.
As always, drivers should use care when backing
up a vehicle. Always look behind you, being
sure to check for other vehicles, obstructions and
blind spots.
For Driver Information Center messages related to
URPA, see
DIC Warnings and Messages on
page 266
.
If the vehicle bumper is damaged, the URPA
system may not work properly. Take the vehicle to
your dealer to repair the system.

Did you ever get this problem figured out. QUOTE=TexasTahoe;7594]Probably not since the lights on the back panel work just fine, and when I have stoped completely, the fast beep turns on??? It doesn't make sense to have to look at the screen and then look at the lights.[/QUOTE]
