Default roof rack cross rails

hello...

first time post and I have a 2003 Tahoe... came with the roof rack side rails but no cross rails. I see them in the online catalogs but seem a little expensive for me..

I'm wondering if anyone has a set of cross rails that they've replaced or removed that they are willing to part with for a reasonable amount ???

thanks
John

I would recommend doing a search on Ebay for them, it will be alot cheaper than online stores. Just a thought.

I'd also recommend checking out the after-market car rack systems from Yakima Racks and Thule Racks. They are cheaper than the OEM option and I've found that they are usuallyon sale on the internet. The systems are very similar from Yakima and Thule. They connect directly to the Chevy Tahoe side rails. Just make sure you get the 58 inch length cross bars because the shorter ones won't make it across the Tahoe rooftop. Yakima offers the Yakima Lowrider car rack system and thule has the Thule 450 Crossroad car rack system. Both will provide you with solid Chevy Tahoe roof rack crossbars.

I have a 2004 S-10 with the roof racks and was told that if I removed the cross bars I would get better mileage, is this true? I do hate the wind sound they make.

Welcome to the forum.

I doubt it but you might post in the S-10 section and see what the response is over there.

The more easily your vehicle can slip through the air the better your MPG will be, unless your roof rack is rather large or bulky I don't think your going to be able to see any MPG improvement tank to tank but more so over the life of the vehicle...
