Puts me at 8788 trailer weight. That's with 800 lbs of passengers (family of 5, 3 teenagers). Drop down to 300 lbs of passengers, and I'm at 9188.

Sounds about right, as the TL Towing Guide lists me at 9300.

Fully loaded for a 2-week vacation, I'm at ~8500 lbs on my Suburban wheels, and ~6000 lbs on the trailer axles.

But again, you have to take into account the physics of the different hitches, not just absolute weights. Would I pull a 5th wheel that weighs 150% of my TV? Heck, yeah. I might even go to 2X. Would I do that with a bumper pull trailer and a short-wheelbase TV? Hell, no! I wouldn't go over 100%!

I would also throw in the caveat, that the percentage should also take in to account if trailer brakes are in use or not.... most larger TT's have them, but its something to keep in mind...

I thought most federal/state laws required trailer brakes on trailers over 3500 lbs? I pull a 3000-lb cargo trailer, too. It has no brakes.

Frankly, with the anti-sway, added length, and trailer brakes, I prefer towing the 6000-lb 30' TT compared to the 3000-lb 15' cargo trailer.

Default 3500 lbs

most vehicles tow 3500 max because above that, yes you need trailer brakes

I put electric brakes on my trailer, and WOW I love it. SO much safer.

OMG that's funny.

I can't seem to find it, but have you guys seen the one where the truck is backed w/a trailer in the water... then the boat loads on it, then he pulls out. stops, and the trailer gets unhooked and the boat goes back DOWN the ramp.

They had way too much weight on the back, and apparently didn't know what safety chains are for.

I won't even move a trailer in the driveway without safety chains.
