how can you unlock the seat belts?my drivers side seat belt is locked and i cant get it loose. what can i do? thanks.

 

I've had this happen to me occassionally, too. It seems like the mechanism that locks the seatbelt before an imminent crash is malfunctioning. It locks the seatbelt before I put it into Drive! Anyway, I wrestle with it -- either pulling straight up or down -- and it eventually comes loose. IMHO, this minor defect diminishes the perceived safetiness of the device (what else could be wrong with it?).

 

You don't say how old your vehicle is. If it's got some miles, it could be that the belt is worn and it's just jammed in the retractor. If you can't get it unjammed or unlocked by pulling on it, see if you can get the cover up off the retractor so you can see what's causing the problem.

 

Not to speak for Negra, but mine is an '07 Tahoe with ~16,000 miles on it -- this shouldn't enough to be worn belts. I started seeing this problem not too long ago.

 

There is an enertia lock mechanizm that can lock the seatbelt when any of the following occur:

[align=left] • A rapid extraction of the seat belt webbing from the retractor [/align] [align=left] • An abrupt change in the vehicle speed [/align] [align=left] • An abrupt change in the vehicle direction [/align] [align=left] • Operation of the vehicle on a steep upgrade [/align] [align=left] • Operation of the vehicle on a steep downgrade
[/align]If your belt locks for no reason then it is malfunctioning and should be repaired, it is covered under the new car 3yr/36k mile warranty.

thanks,doug for adding that info, haha. i assumed that mostly very one here that post knows what we drive. but there are new folks now.

well to the problem at hand. the seat belt fixed it self. i dont know how but it did.the tahoe has 15,00 miles on it.

 

hmmmmm its a small world..... we went back to the dealer on our belts.... They were making a clicking sound and were locking... We were told that this is FEATURE when you have a childs car seat ect, pull the belt all the way out & then it will lock where it stops... Wonder if you are pulling it too far out?

This feature is called "Dual Mode Retractor" and it is not integrated into the driver seatbelt.
