Default Second Row Bucket Seats Should be Removable – Don’t You Think? (2007 Tahoe)

Am I the only one that really wants the second row to be removable? I think it’s great that they tumble forward, but can’t think why they’re not removable to open up that whole back area for cargo.

What are everyone’s experiences? Is it plenty of room when just two people go on a trip or have any of you even removed them on your own? I can’t believe that it’s a safety issue, knowing that the third row must comply with safety standards and they are removable.

Wonder if 2008 model will change this. I’m sure the last thing GM wants to do make substantial changes to a new model that just came out. That costs too much money for a vehicle that just cost them a bunch to roll out less than a year ago.

Comments…P.S. I was simply surprised when the salesmen tumbled the seats forward an I couldn’t find a handle to release the seat from the bracket. That’s all.

Engineering found it extremely difficult to integrate a removable center row seat with a power flip and fold mechanism, while not all vehicles are equipped with this option the design must accomodate this feature.

The vehicle is primarily intended to be a people mover; few customers have voiced a need or desire to carry large volumes of cargo in their expensive SUV's.

They should not necessarily be removable. The second and third rows should fold flat into the floor.

And lets not forget about the heated seat option.

Folding flat would not, in my opinon, be a good idea. This would cause the truck to be deeper killing the styling that everyone, includeing myself, love so much.

The only way to do this is if the vehicle went with an independent rear suspension (IRS) design, a la Expedition, etc. And most of us that do any towing with our trucks much prefer the solid axle design for it's strength and simplicity. With a solid axle, there just isn't enough room to be able to have the really low floor needed to swallow up the folded seats. So unless GM goes with an IRS design in the future, there probably won't be any way to get the fold flat option anytime soon...I personally prefer the traditional solid axle design and can deal with the seats (although in a perfect world, I'd like to have both!)

Most of the time I do installs on the parking lot environment.
takes less then 5 minutes to take both second rowseats out of the vehicle using high power cordless tool.
