My understanding is that the Tahoe employs the VATS system - which means that there is a computer chip in the head of the key - without the right chip, the truck won't start. That's why a new key costs so much money from the dealer.

I'm certain that there is a way to bypass it electronically, but the average car thief likely doesn't have the $$$ to buy something like that. Instead, he'll just destroy the inside of your 'hoe trying to defeat the computers.

The 07 tahoe actually uses the PKIII system. This is identifiable by the + on the key. The key works in conjuction with the PKIII box which allowsthe correct ohms during the crank cycle. So if someone jams the lock with atool it will not start the truck. On the newer gm's there are no longer starter wires at the key cylinder. The accessory and starter share one wire. It all works thru ohms. Its called multi-plex. In order for someone to take your truck (besides towing) would be to know the rf signal of your key, Transmit that to the PKIII during a certain time frame of akey cycleand then send the a pattern of resistance on the accessory wire. Can this be done? hell yes but its not likely. If your that worried you can install a starter kill system which will interupt the starter module under the hood. This way they would have to bypass everything inside then under the hood. it would be time consuming. Sorry to confuse you.....
