Default serpentine belt

For years I have seen good serpentine belts in Florida & here in Texas that were cracked on the inside that rides on the pulleys. I never know when to change them. I usually depend on my mechanic for this but feel it should be easy enough for me to do it. I bought one and want to know "How do I replace my serpentine belt on my '97 Suburban with a 5.7 350 vortec v-8 engine"?

Since they bend both ways as they "serpentine" around all of the pulleys, minor cracks on the grooved side. It's when those cracks start to go over 50% of the way thru, that I start to worry.
