Default Service 4WD Error Code

Hi All -

I've got a 2006 Z71 4-wheel drive Suburban.

It started with the service 4-wheel drive errors on the console a few months ago, and after reading around on here, I replaced the dash switch first.

And then I replaced the transfer case encoder ring with a Dorman brand ring.

It cleared the error codes, switching from 2 to 4 started working again, etc, and I was proud of myself for a job well done... ha

Until now - only about 3 months later - and now the error codes are back - and the switch no longer indicates 2 or 4 wheel drive anymore.

Are those rings really that bad that a new one would fail this soon?? Any other ideas on what I should check or what brand I should use if I replace it again???

Thanks a lot for any advice,
Howard
