Default Smog test failed

I was turned down on a smog test due to an air leak in the fuel system. I dropped the tank and replaced the filler hose, vent hose and the short piece of hose that goes to the canister and it failed again. The hose that goes to the canister both from the card and the short piece that goes to the tank look relatively new,
Any ideas where to look next?
Also now on the fuel gauge, before when the tank was full the needle read at say 1:30, now with just a couple of gallons in it the needle is buried reading 3:00 or more
Any ideas?
Thanks

I can't relate to anything newer than a 1970 canister/emission. With that, I believe the fuel tank vent maybe tied to it. The emissions is it raw hydrocarbons? If so, could be the canister needs replaced.

All I know is they hook up a suction line to a modified gas cap and check for leaks.
Results were "test Failed"

That sounds like checking for air leaks or ppm O2, not familiar with this type of emissions. I'd look at the evap canister hose routing, does one say vent or back to tank?

the states test method sounds retarded. The system has an evap monitor that tests itself. There is no need to perform the test they did unless the evap monitor is setting a trouble code. Your states emission testing seems flawed.

if a trouble code is set; that is where diagnostics must begin. Without knowing the states test procedure no one can even begin to understand what they are doing.

get the evap system checked for codes. if a leak is present it will set a code. smoke testing the system will locate the leak.

finally...is the vent solenoid valve closing...a common problem for these trucks
