I have a 07 Tahoe with the non Bose system. I want to improve the sound but am not sure how or where to start. For example - is replacing the standard head unit with the Bose an option? If I do that would I have to upgrade the speakers to the Bose speakers? Also, is just upgrading the standard speakers to ones with higher sensitivity ratings the best way to go? I don't need a rockin' system but I do remember the days of my home system where you could hear it if a musician farted during the recording. LOL TIA!

There is no difference in the head unit of a Bose system vs. the standard system, the only difference is in the programming with the Bose speaker system the head unit's internal amplifier is turned off and the unit becomes a pre-amp.
The easiest way to improve the sound is to replace the speakers with high quality and effecient speakers and then add an aftermarket amplifier if you need more volume.
It is extremely difficult to install the Bose amp and speaker system after the fact and not worth the expense or time IMHO.
You can search this forum, there are several past threads that deal with this very same issue.
