No matter where you activate the liftgate from it begins to open and travels about 10"-14" and then reverses and closes. No unusual sounds and it does latch and unlatch properly. Is there an adjustment for the amount of travel?

 

Sounds like it thinks it's hitting something - are the lift struts still strong? what year? my guess is the gas struts need replaced, but that's just a guess.
