Default Suburban Question?

Hello All,

Looking into a new 2010-2011 Suburban, 2500 LT model.

My question :

I will be towing a 8100 lb camper with this truck. I live on Long Island and am looking to explore the country.

Does anybody on here own a 2500? how is the ride? how does it tow and handle?

I love the look and totally have my wife sold on the suburban. But just not sure of the towing. It is rated for 9300 lb in the 4X4 model.

I am also looking at the 2500LTZ pick-up with the duramax, But like the room of the suburban.

Any info will help. Just looking for some advise. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

You might be the first for the GMT 900. I'll guess that the ride will be a bit stiffer. At least it was on the old ones.

I see very little 2500 Burbs around - new or old body styles. I do understand the need but I assume most people get the 2500 trucks to pull something real heavy - with the great duramax set up.
I am sure the suburban will pull the camper fine especially with the 6.2 engine and I would get air bags for the rear suspension. Maybe you can ask the dealer if he will let you have the truck overnight so you can hook up and make sure before you buy?
good luck and keep us updated, I am interested to hear how it drives

The 2010 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 with the 6.0L engine with 4 Wheel Drive is rated to tow up to 9300 pounds. I would suggest speaking with the selling dealership about towing ratings as I do find that the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating or both the vehicle and the trailer being towed) for the 2500 4WD Suburban should not exceed 16,000 pounds. This information is in the owners manual (if you get a chance to look at it) in section 5 starting on page 52. To help in calculating your GCWR the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (the weight of the vehicle when fully loaded) is 8600 pounds for the 3/4 ton Suburban. Add the weight of the trailer you want to tow and it should not exceed 16,000 pounds. I hope this information helps you.

Thank you for the info.

Jeff - does the GCWR change if i use my weight dist bars and hitch?

according to your post my trailer can only be 7400 pounds

16,000 Total GCWR
8,600 Suburban
= 7,400 wieght of trailer

now the GCWR will not change no matter if you use airbags in the suspension or distribution bars - those only help control the weight. the 16000 lbs does not mean the truck can't technically pull more weight it basically means if you get in an accident or get pulled over and they find you are overweight based on the stock ratings, you will have big problems.
I would look into another tow vehicle especially since you want to drive long distances - if was only a few times/year and short miles I would not worry about it.

I would think the 2500 Surburban would be rated for higher than 9300 lbs towing though
