Default Suburban shutdown

I own a 1997 Chevy Suburban that has been an excellent vehicle since I first bought it when it was brand new. Aside from standard maintenance problems (brake replacement, fuel pump, alternator, tires, etc.) if has performed well. Now, however, it completely shuts down whenever I am driving, without warning. This is particularly dangerous while I am driving on the Interstate, but it happens other times as well. I have read the comment threads all the way back to 2006 have not seen ANY solution to the problem. Certainly by now, one would think that someone would determine the problem and how it can be fixed. Any answers?
