Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

I dont know anything about the Expeditions however i have owned 2 of the so-called
"kings of SUV's" the Ford Excursions. Both had powerstroke diesels. Niether one of them
come any where close to my Suburban 2500 as far as ride, comfort , fit and finish etc.
I think you would be happier with a Suburban,Yukon or Tahoe. I'm not biased to GM products. I do also have a Ford product in my Garage. However its a Classic 1972 Bronco

Hmmm. Good topic. Well, I have relatives and each has a 2009 expedtiton. One limited other XLT. Haven;t ridden in the limited much but it was the options that our burb has, just, very different setup. The XLT, had the leather seats, stereo that was better than the blose, MUCH quieter ride, smoother ride when empty, and gobs of low end torque. How ever, inside storage is VERY limited, the seats only fold down, they do not come out like a burb. My 5.3 pulls a decent amount harder once you finally get above 2K rpm. (and I have had the AFM ticking for 30K mi!) Suspension sits way down when towing and no longer a smooth ride.

The seats though, hands down ford wins. I hate these fricking leather seats in my newer burb. So stiff! Feels like there is no foam at all. My old burb the seat were plush, you could feel the seat squish when you sat in it. The ford expedition el XLT had far better seats than my 07 burb.

Just got back (a few weeks ago) from a 3000 mile trip pulling a 30' travel trailer, with the burb. I have to agree with Joe the newer seats are not as comfy as the ones in our 2005 burb, but they are plenty comfy for long trips you just need to adjust the seat position every 2 hours or so. But I think the ride was very good even hooked up to a heavy trailer, the ride is way way better towing, than my F250 FX4 not towing. There were many times I had to look to see if the trailer was still back there.

Please know that when you get on one of these sites you will see lots of problems with these vehicles but keep in mind the reason why most people come to a site like this is to get help with problems. It is very rare that someone comes on one of these sites and says "hey had the burb for a year and not a problem." Also remember there have been lots of burbs, hoes, and Yukon’s sold so even if there were 10,000 people with a certain problem that is only about 1% with that problem.

We purchased our burb in March and for us it came down to a few things:
<O</O

Cargo room- there is lots of room behind the third row enough for 3 Great Danes. The third row folds easy and I like that I can take the third row out completely, I never had a need to fold the 2nd row seats even in our old burb. If I can’t get it in there with the 3rd row out, I will just take my truck.

Style- This was a big one for me. The expedition has a very dated look hasn't changed much in 10 years. The Suburban only goes back to 2007 and still looks good for being 6 years old.

Price- We were looking at used 2012/13 LTs but we found this 2009 LTZ with less miles than the 2012/13's and about $10k cheaper and in much better condition. We found the Expedition EL's were the same price as the Suburban’s at least here in central Texas.

Bottom line is both the Ex and the Burb are very good SUVs each will have their problems but as a whole both very capable and reliable SUVs.

AH, Texas. Major factor for SUV buying. I lived in Aledo, TX for 8 years, (west of Fort Worth). Families had either a Chevy Suburban (rarely a tahoe, no GMC Yukons, ,or Cadillac Escalades, just CHEVY Sububrans.) or a Ford Excursion. I rarely saw an Expedition. Was pretty funny.

But, the best place to buy a used SUV (chevy suburban) thats in great shape, good amount of option (most opted out) and good price. Go to Texas. You will always find what you're looking for.

I want to thank everyone for giving me their opinions. I drove both vehicles and even snuck a test drive in of a new F150. Anyway I did buy an Expedition EL. Pricing for my trade in was fair and I got 0% financing for 60 months plus some rebates. It's got almost all the options you can get. Thanks again and wish this 1st time Ford owner good luck.

oh, forgot to add. My uncle who bought the 2010 Limited EL brand new, the sun roof kept leaking, they had to go in 5 times to finally get it right, this was after owning it for just a few months, summer 2010. Ford tried saying only the first visit was covered by bumper to bumper warranty... Boy, he really had to fight them on that one...
