Subwoofer replacement
Has anyone replaced their subwoofer in a 2001 Tahoe with an aftermarket sub and it sound better without adding anything else (ie amp)? I was wanting to replace mine but did not want to get in depth with money and thought that buying an aftermarket sub may help.
The 2001 has an 8" sub in the driver side rear storage panel. If you replace with after market it would be my suggestion to add on an aftermarket amp. I added an 8" Rockford sub and a small mono amp that is installed beneath the rear seats (lots of room).
Even with that sub replaced it sounds a bit better, but a friend of mine had a box built, and an amp installed, and his tahoe absolutely pounds! So, my suggestion would be to get a box (prefab or otherwise), an aftermarket sub (I like the response andsound of a 10"), and a good mono-block amp to hammer it.
Just my two bits
