Default Swapping out my Gen 4 5.3L on my 2007 Suburban 1500 with a Gen 3 5.3L

Long story short: I'm on my second collapsed lifter (the special ones with the springs for AFM) As far as I can tell, my cheapest options are to do an AFM delete(which I'm not sure I want to tackle) or swap out the motors. I can either swap it out with a similiar gen 4 motor (and maybe have the same AFM problems down the road) or put a gen 3 in it out without the AFM. My question is, is it even possible to swap the gen 4 with a gen 3, and if it is, what will I have to modify in my current setup to make it work (electrical, transmision, etc..)?

Also the motor in there now is a VIN "3":

I thought you could disable AFM with a simple computer plug in thing?

Ya I guess when the lifters start collapsing, just disabling AFM doesn't work anymore. That's just what I've read, so I could be wrong.

Welcome to the forum.
Wouldn't it be easier to replace the lifters on the AFM cylinders and put in one of those Range modules that disables AFM than swapping engines?

Thanks, sounds like an option as well.

So you can do the physical delete and just get one of the obd2 plug-in and it work without having to get a tune?
