Hey y'all, im looking at buying a 1996 tahoe 4 door, 5.7 v8 from an individual. He said the tranny was rebuilt with a heavy duty torque converter, its lifted, properly geared and what not. BUT he said the 4WD and I quote "Needs new power inverter switch on front chunk replaced in order for 4WD to work." What does this mean?! Please help guys! thanks!

I've never herd of the terms "inverter" or "chunk" as related to a Transfer Case.
What Case do you have ?
Manual or Auto/Push Button control ?
Have you tried conventional operation ?

Yea, I'm thinking that's what the guy (seller) meant. Not that he knew much about 4WD, unless he was just trying to snow 964door.
There's actually two functions/actuators.
One which engages the front wheels, and..
one that shifts it into Low Range.
To shift into 4WD-Hi, only one has to work,
To shift into 4WD-Lo, both have to work.
IOW: you must shift into 4WD before you can shift into Lo Range.
964door, have you tried to just put it in 4WD-Hi ?
