Default Tahoe high oil pressure

The oil pressure in my 2005 Tahoe usually runs around 40, today it suddenly went up to 80 and stayed there even after the engine warmed up. It is extremely cold here today, could that be the cause? If not, what could cause it to suddenly increase?

Are you showing any OBD II codes or CEL lit up? I suppose the cold could do it. What weight of motor oil are you using? Regular oil and filter changes? How many miles on your Tahoe?

No lights are coming on, the Tahoe has a little over 188,000 miles. I just bought it a few months ago but the previous owner gave me maintenance records, it has had regular oil changes using 5W30 oil.

Good deal. Yeah 80 PSI is high. 60-65 is normal on the high side. A motor with 188k usually runs 40-50 PSI if in good condition. I see what I can figure out. I am hoping a bearing didn't slip..

Yeah, that what I was think too. Its a bear to get to the oil sensor, depending on which engine it is.
