Default Which temperature actuator?

I am having a problem with the AC/heater air direction control **** (dash/floor/defrost) of my 2003 Suburban. I can reliably switch to the defrost vents but can't always switch back to the dash vents. There is an associated clicking under the dash (about every second or maybe a bit faster). It used to do this four or five times and then stop. Now it does it every time the engine is started about fifty times before stopping. It sounds like a gear slipping to me. Also, the air is now permanently stuck on defrost. Is this a temperature actuator? If so, which one? If not, what is it? Thanks, Rich

Welcome to the forum.

I believe there's a blend door that controls temp and then a door that directs the flow to the def, dash, or floor.

Others here probably know more about it tho.

Thanks Shark. It's definitely the "direction" door. Does anyone know what Chevy calls it? Any insight into repairing this would be most appreciated.

I've uploaded a YouTube video which shows the problem including the under dash clicking. If anyone knows what this is and how to fix it, please let me know. Thanks, Rich

The actuator that controlls the levels is located under the dash up and to the right of the gas pedal. there are 3 screws holding it on. There is a relearn procedure that the actuators go thru when you start up the vehicle. Before replacing it turn the a/c off and turn the key to on then off about 5 times. That will help make sure you put the new one in the correct position.
