Default Tie rods-what brands are good?

I want to replace the tie rods on a 03 Tahoe. Any one have a brand preference? I was looking at MOOG and ACdelco, Standard did not look as good but I don't know. Any Ideas? thanks Kelly

Welcome to the Forum Kelly.

All Tie Rods are only as good as the consistency of the person who's lubricating them.

Unless you are going OTR and doing Rocks, I wouldn't worry about the duty factors. The ACD's are good as any.

At work we really like Moog and AcDelco (delcos are actually made for every make and model) suspension parts. You can not go wrong with either.

+1 for the Moog... used them on my daughters Cobalt... make sure to get a set that have grease zerks...cheaper ones will not be grease-able...
Be sure to give them a couple of shots of grease once installed...

Thanks, How many squirts of grease or how do I know when there is enough grease in the tie rods? Right now there is a Red Marine wheel bearing grease in my grease gun. Used for boat trailer wheel bearings. I suppose that will be ok?

Thanks Kelly

Fill it until you see the boot move (push out slightly). Your grease will be fine

Kelly,

That Red Grease is probably real good for Marine use, but, any Wheel Bearing Grease is dependent on higher temperatures to really do a good job. Things like Ball Joints and Tie Rods, need something that will lube at lower temperatures, and still resist washing away.

Might think about changing to a General Purpose Grease, or, getting a second Gun where you can use both easily.
