Default Tranny falure in 2007 LT3 with 20000 Miles

On Tuesday I was driving to work and Pow! My Tahoe makes a noise and the truck shutters. I give it gas and Frmmmmmm frrmmm it was likeI pushed in the clutch. I getover the overpass coast down to a parking lot give it gas and same problem. I put it in 2nd and it moves. So I go to a couple blocks to work PISSED to say the least. I call up chevy warrenty the come get the truck and What a Pain in the rear to get the rental and all.

They said it may be the skeg or something like that.

Has anyone had tranny issues in there truck?

They said something about a Reconditioned replacment. After spending $ 46,000 on a truck a year agoshouldn't they put in a new one?

Does the Warrenty start over for the Tranny?

Please help me get the best info so I will get the correct parts and service.

Was it a "sprag"? Actually a reconditioned one may be better than what you currently have as it will have any upgrades that have come out since your's was built. Don't know about the warranty starting over.

more then likely they will rebuild the tranny you have, but I guess its possible theycould drop in a replacement, it is my understanding / experiencethat the re-worked/replacment tranny will have a 12mo 12k mile warrenty. My 1997 Tahoe tranny spun a bearing at 11k they rebuilt it and had a 1 year 12k mile. When it went out againat 109k miles that one was on me and I bought a remanufactured GM tranny for about $1400

The truck should have come with a 100,000 mile powertrain warrenty which will still apply to the new trans. If you had to purchase the trans from the dealer it would come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warrenty. Yours should be covered for the remaining portion of you warrenty 80,000 miles if the truck has 20,000. You are not the first one thatI have heard about premature trans failure

Well I got off the phone with the local dealer. They said that one of my clutches had given way and that was the cause of the issue not the sprag.

Now at 20,000 miles that seems a little strange. I do not drive the truck hard, I have only towed my dads boat and a trailer with my racing boats inside. Nothing in my mind to cause this issue.

Is there something I need to pay attention to in the future??????

Thank you,
Hugh

Who knows... it could be a manufacturing issue with that lot of clutches, could have been a flaw in the assembly of your particular unit, sometimes things just fail, we all hate it when it happens to us.
You best defense is to document and to keep in touch with forums like this.

Might watch your tranny temp when towing. If it gets over 200-230, might want to put a cooler on. You can get the one from Chevy that's on the Z/71 or an aftermarket one.
