Default Transfer case question for 08 Subuarban

I have a 2008 Suburban 4x4. The transfer case is pretty noisy and has over 325,000 miles on it. Still works, but, I believe it needs rebuilt or swapped out. It's a np246 according to the build sheet . Will other year np 246 transfer cases work on my drive train? Or, does the replacement have to be exactly the same?

I see you posted twice. Please check your build sheet or look for a tag on your transfer case. I’m thinking GM stopped putting the NP246 in Suburban’s in 2017 or else you got one of the last ones.

I just finished checking the VIN Decoder and the build sheet shows the Suburban has a NVG246 transfer case (M70/M30) with a electronic rotary dial switch to change desired mode. So, is it basically the same as a np246 with the tag on the transmission showing it's type? I basically just need to know if the tranfer cases are all the same from one year to another. There are ones for sale that indicate they are good for vehicles from 1999 and up and others with the same tag on the transmission that sellers say the case is good for 99 through 2002.

Something wrong. You said your Suburban is a 2008. Can you check the door plate? Last year for the NVG246 was 2004 as far as I know.

Looks like there is an error in the VIN decorder on this website. It appears that if your Suburban has an auto transfer case the Decorder lists a NVG246 but that’s impossible since they haven’t been used since 2004. What you have is a MP343.

All the GM transfer cases went to the MP type in 2007. Please check your option list, probably on a sticker in your glove compartment and look for the letters NQH. If you see it, it confirms the MP type transfer case.

I happened to be at the GM dealer today. They confirmed what I wrote above. I'd advise you to talk with your GM dealer , then talk with a good 4x4 shop. Good luck.
