Question Transmission Failure?

Hello I am new here. I have a 2003 Z71 that has started having shifting problems after I changed the battery. I first noticed that it was not shifting smoothly between 3 and 4 gear. Then a few days later it would not changed from second to a higher gear. I took it to the local dealership in Frisco, TX and was told the encoder sensor needed to be changed and the transmission should be rebuilt or replaced for about $3,000. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also can you recommend a good transmission repair shop in the Dallas area. I called a few places and they want $1600 to rebuild. During rebuilds do they use stronger parts or would I be better off with a new transmission.

Thank you for your help

Thank you for the response. My vehicle is a 4X4 Z71 so that transmission will not work for me.

Welcome to the forum.

Usually when a tranny is rebuilt, they will incorporate any upgrades that have taken place since it was originally built.

x2 There is nothing wrong with a rebuilt trans if done right. $1600 sounds like a good price.
