Default Transmission filter gasket

Changed my transmission fluid in my 2005 Tahoe today. Could not get the filter gasket out of the tube. Tried different things but did not want to destroy the old one. Put the new filter in the old gasket and popped in okay. How are you suppose to get the old gasket out? Is there a special toll for this? Is it okay to run with the old filter gasket for now? It's only had 30K on it. Thanks, Tom

It will be fine using the old one. You pretty much have to destroy it to get it out.
