Default Transmission issues

So my factory trans with 240k finally gave out. I bought 1 from a good buddy that was 100% g2g. I get it installed and this is where I'm at.

first off I had to cut off the exhaust past the collectors because bolts were rusted and stripped out. I haven't got it wielded it back up yet and the 2 rear o2 sensors are currently unplugged.

reverse works perfect
1st perfect
2nd perfect
3rd is like neutral until around 3800rpm then pulls like a tractor but will tach out only doing about 45mph, seems slow for 3rd. 2nd will run into the mid 50s before rpms get that high.
will not shift to 4th

from dead stop manual shifting on column
reverse strong
1st strong
2nd strong
3rd strong

dead stop in 1st rolling through to drive
1st is strong
2nd strong
3rd acts like neutral till around 3800rmp
will not shift to 4th

checked all fuses really hoping someone can say for sure the o2 sensors may be where my problem lies. I dont want to pay the shop to weld it back together without some input from yall first

Probably a bad shift solenoid. Could even be your throttle position sensor.

So could be shift solenoid even though it tries to shift into 3rd? I was thinking of the solenoid was bad it would stay in 2nd and not shift at all but I dont know much so trying to learn as much as possible

Sure, things don't always break down flat.Automatic transmissions are highly-engineered devices, which is why some people prefer a stick-shift. No cooling lines to the radiator, not hundreds of parts to go wrong. You can abuse a manual and if it does break, its not an arm and a leg to repair or replace it. Abuse an automatic and it will break down. Not putting automatics down, as I like my cars with an automatic, but things can and do go wrong more often with automatics vs. manual transmissions.

Manual transmission clutches can be made to last a long time, so that old canard wont hold water. I keep my foot off the clutch pedal in my old 1998 K1500 and put it in neutral a stop light, since that reduces throw-out bearing wear and tear. Still running on the OEM clutch, transmission and transfer case too, so it must be working

We truck-drivers dont even use the clutch, unless we are stopped, backing up in a yard and so on. We float the gears without the clutch, but do not do that in a transmission with synchronizers, which are all light vehicle manual transmissions, as they are not designed for that kind of usage, and it can destroy the synchronizers..
