Question Trouble Codes, Check Engine Light

How do you get the trouble codes when the truck doesn't run? With the key? TIA

Buy or rent a scan tool or code reader and then plug it into the OBD data link port under the dash with key on?

^ agree, or borrow a friends.

Throw a battery charger on the battery if the car is weak, which I imagine it is if it doesn't run / no return power from alternator.

On some makes you can turn the key and get codes with blinking lights, maybe not this make. I killed and charged the battery once. Thanks Guys.

That was OBD I days, i.e., 1995 or older. Anyway, the CEL should be lit with key on, engine off. If yours won't start, the CEL is not really a good diagnostic aid.
