Default Trunk Closes Randomly. Dealer can't find problem

Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum. I have a 2015 suburban (fully loaded model) and the trunk will randomly close. Open it, load some groceries and it closes on your head. Doesn't happen all the time. Dealer can't replicate it. Will happen wether I open trunk from the inside (using the button on drivers roof panel) or wether I am outside the truck and use the remote control.

It won't open on its own but my wife is getting tired of being hit with the trunk randomly. Dealer says they "repgromammed" the computer (don't know if such things exits for trunk control) but it just did it again this morning.

I searched for similar problems but haven't found any posted since 2009. I am at a loss and it has been to the dealer 4 or 5 fives for this already.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks again

Peter

I've got the exact opposite problem--the liftgate mysteriously opens without input from the driver. On a couple of occasions, I've come back to the truck and found the liftgate in the open position. The dealer said there was a short in the touchpad and replaced it but it continues to occasionally open on its own. On the second trip to the dealer, they were concerned about a key fob (that was given to me by the selling dealer) causing the problem. Doubt it, since it takes a substantial double push on the key fob button to get the liftgate to open. 2013 Suburban LTZ.

Welcome to the forum...
Does your vehicle have the foot operated open/close feature. If so, are you inadvertently activating it by standing too close to the rear hatch area and moving your feet around?

FYI for search purposes it's called a rear hatch door or cargo area door not a trunk.

Thank you!!!! You are a genius. it does have that foot thing. I went outside right after you posted and waved my hands and feet all under back bumper and it opened and closed that way. Will read about how it works. Hopefully I can turn it off.

I am so pissed with dealership. They made us feel like we are crazy we dropped truck off and left it 4 times and they are not smart enough to sell a 65k truck and tell you to check that feature.

Ridiculous on their part. Gonna stop by monday and reem them a new one. You posted within one hour of my post and it was solved. Those idiots had truck for 4 full days and couldn't think of that. This includes Service manager, service guy and mechanic

Thanks you again. I am gonna post another issue maybe you will have my answer as well

in they're defense you do have an owners manual and as a tech you its hard to decipher between operator error and an actual malfunction without knowing every detail
