a while back in my 1997 tahoe i would be driving down the road when raining and my wipers would just stop. after turning the switch on and off multiple times they would start to work. this gradually got worse until now when driving down the road they will stop and not start working again until i pull off the road turn the truck off and then start it again and then they work. this is not all of the time but is happening more and more frequently.

then within the last few months, the signal lights stopped working intermittently. most of the time they work but sometimes they just stop blinking and freeze up intil i pull over and turn off the engine then they work properly. so i decided to try something, i turned on the wipers and then gave a signal and the wipers stalled. it doesn't do this everytime when i try it but sometimes this test gives the same results. i'm thinking something is wrong in the column switch because the wipers and signal lights are on the same lever coming from the column? please advise

 

I would say with better then a 99% certainty that the muti-function (turn-signal) lever is faulty and should be replaced.
Common problem and your local dealer should stock the part and know exactly what you are talking about.
