I have read, some, not exhaustively, about the motor and transmission issues on the 07-09 Suburbans. Are all the 5.3 motors of that era suspect? IS there a way to buy used with some confidence? I believe the problem was fixed in production in 2010 maybe October, unfortuantely my price range is more in the 07-09 era. any help in buying used would be appreciated.

Yes, all 5.3s are suspect from that vintage. IMHO, the "fix" is merely a bandaid, and wouldn't buy a '10 or newer either.

Look for a Yukon XL Denali or an Escalade ESV. They have the 6.2, and no AFM.
