Default This weekend is calling for 120 degrees

What would you do to prep a car for high heat like that. I imagine ambient ground temps will be 140+degrees


I will likely not drive but that temp is way above what I think is normal.

A sun shade for sure,
Consider placing a light colored towel over the steering wheel to help prevent it from getting too hot to hold,
If you have leather seats, a towel to cover the seats as well.
crack all the windows ,
take care not to slam shut the rear gate or glass, or doors
park in the shade when available
Consider installing a remote start to get the vehicle cooled down prior to entering
Keep your radiator clean and clear of bugs and bug guts
If your cooling system is more than 4 years old consider having the system serviced and hoses and belts replaced.
Make sure the overflow tank is at proper "cold" level
Keep jumper cables handy, as high heat can kill a battery that is only a few years old.
Keep water, bottled water in the vehicle at all times

Oh man! I know its a dry heat, but geez! I would think one would have to keep good tires on the car during summer, I feel like that kind of heat could stress a worn tire easily to be a flat tire, lol.

The car companies do a lot of testing in areas of the southwest like Death Valley.

The only thing I might do is throw one of those folding sunshades into the car. Other than that, I'd drive it just like any other day.

When we vacationed in Utah a few years ago, we did some offroading in Canyonlands. The temperature on the rim floor was running between 115° and 120°. We still were running with the A/C on, and the truck handled it just fine. Yes, temperatures were a little above normal - coolant around 220°, trans temp around 225°, but no issues whatsoever.

Frankly, it wouldn't concern me one bit.
