Default weird clunking/grinding noise on startup

Intermittent problem. Can never get it to happen when I want it to. But today, I hit the remote start button and it started right up and ran for a couple seconds. Then it made the horrible noise and shut off. Thinking it is A/C related since it happened about far enough into the sequence where my A/C usually kicks on. Read up on it and heard a lot of issues with squealing, but I wouldn't describe it as a squeal. More of a grind or pop. At first I thought it sounded like the radiator fan had a stick thrown into it if that helps. 07 burb LT BTW. 114k. Any ideas? TIA.

Could be the A/C slugging from liquid refrigerant settling in the compressor. Try leaving the A/C off when you shut 'er down and see if it still makes the noise on start up.

Do you happen to know what that sounds like? I've tried to look it up online but most of what I can find describes it as squealing. Definitely not what mine sounds like. More like a fan hitting something and stopping suddenly.

It's more of a rattling mechanical sound. Sort of like stirring a bucket of marbles.

Thanks for the reply. I could see that as a description of the sound I heard. Is it pretty loud? Could be heard a few feet away, or do you have to really be listening for it?

When I heard it on my 2007 Tahoe, it was loud enough to hear when standing outside of a vehicle.
