Default What's the missing gauge?

Hi all --

My '83 diesel Burb's first owner changed the lower-left gauge on the left side for an ammeter. What would have originally gone in this spot? (Photo attached.)

Thanks!

Is there a fuel level gauge somewhere else? If not that's probably what it was. Or maybe a tranny temp gauge.

They added a tranny temp gauge... I'm wondering if it wasn't a blank, because I can't think of what else GM would have put there. (Fuel is to the right of speedo, by the way.) I've found the brochure on line, and there's one pic, but you can't make out what the gauge is!!

yea, I m thinking tranny temp gauge for the transfer case in 4wd apps? Or on military vehicles or harsh weather vehicles, maybe this column was like a gyrometer to detect vehicle pitch to prevent rollovers? Or water in fuel light?

Figured it out from what was in that picture in post 5. It was a space for a fuel gauge IF you had the version of the C/Ks with a manual transmission. The space next to the speedo would be a tach. So therefore they would put the fuel gauge in that tiny little slot.

If yours is blank it is because you have an automatic so they used the big circle for a fuel gauge
