Default Where to buy re-built 4L60E

I am sure that this topic has been addressed a hundred times but cannot find it on here.

I have a 96 Burban and the trans is buzzing and not going into reverse at times, then starts buzzing, drops RPMs and then re-engages on the freeway at speed. I am assuming it would just be easier to replace it than anything else as it has 151k on it.

I have been researching and a local shop wants $3100 to re-build it! They said they could get me a rebuilt for $1899 + $1300 in labor!

I can easily do it myself just trying to ensure it is done asap. So I am back to trying to do it myself. I have found a few places online that look reputable but when looking up reviews they get hammered. Any suggestions on a reputable place to get one? I obviously don't want to spend an arm and a leg but don't want some crap that is going to blow and then get stranded with my 2 y/o.

I just spoke with someone local. He just started his own business after doing them on the side. Sounds EXTREMELY reliable. Actually shamrock is probably closer to you than me just up in NE MD. I am taking my truck to him since my wife wants me to not do the trans on my own...

Went through the same process a few years ago when the trans on my '93 died at 148K, and reached the same conclusions you did. I finally bit the bullet and found a highly recommended local shop to do an in-house rebuild. Not the cheapest in town, but certainly the best. If I'd ordered one from an out-of-state rebuilder, the core charge and shipping would've had me spending just as much.

The only time I didn't use them was when reverse in my daughter's car went out. It didn't make sense to do a $2500 transmission in a $3000 car, and the used one is holding up just fine, but THAT car stays within 25 miles of home.

Thanks guys. Anthony sounds like a great guy. He has said he will NOT re-build one to stock that he does at least minimum of the monster sun shell and some other things. His prices he quoted me are very reasonable and I will be brining my truck to him to do mine soon.
