Default wire/plug near rear passenger tire

looked under my 2005 Tahoe yesterday and found this plug. does anyone know what this is for? and why it would be unplugged?
(disclosure: the picture loaded upside down and i'm not sure how to flip it)

No idea. Is there anything that looks like it plugs into it? Have you checked to see if there is voltage in the line?
