Default Are You Having Power Seat Issues ? Reply HERE

Hey all,

Thanks for the continued support from the forum users. As many of you are aware, www.GruvenParts.com has tackled several issues with these great trucks, including our improved brass folding mirror gears/high torque motors, our improved door lock motors, and our strengthened door handle inserts. You an view these products in the GM Trucks section of our website, here :

GM Trucks auto parts

I was contacted recently by a GM truck owner who complained about the gears in the power seat mechanism on his Suburban. It looks like GM is also using the same brittle plastic for these gears that they are notorious for in the power folding mirrors. We all know how that turned out.

So, chime in here - do you have any experience with problems in your power seats, any pictures, or any related documentation ? We can develop replacement brass gears and evaluate building replacement high torque motors for the seats, if you guys want us to.

As always, you can call or email me directly if you prefer.

Thanks and we look forward to continuing to support the forum users and these great trucks !

GRUVENPARTS.COM BRASS POWER SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT GEARS FOR 2007-2013 GM TRUCKS - Click Here for the Product Page !

*** SOLD IN SETS OF 2 GEARS - ENOUGH TO FIX 1 HEIGHT DRIVE UNIT ***

GruvenParts.com is PROUD to release this LIFETIME WARRANTIED SOLID BRASS GEAR SET for GM truck power seat height adjustment mechanisms ! This set includes 1 helical cut solid brass main gear AND a solid brass mating worm drive gear. These gears exactly match the GM plastic versions but are many times stronger so they will not chip, strip, or break. This is a GREAT WAY to save money AND make your GM truck power height adjustment mechanism BULLETPROOF! We all know that GM will not sell these gears - instead, they make you buy an entire new power seat unit (with more plastic gears that will also soon break or strip). Dont waste money on more plastic gears, or incomplete gear sets. The GruvenParts.com gear set includes EVERYTHING that wears out and replaces them with SOLID BRASS GEARS - LIFETIME WARRANTIED !

The larger helical cut spur gear easily attaches to the main shaft via 24 hour cure epoxy, such as 24 hour JB weld. You can quickly and easily remove the remnants of the GM plastic gear using a small dremel tool then just clean the underlying shaft before application of epoxy.

This product is sold as a set of 2 gears - (1) Spur Gear and (1) Worm gear. This is enough to fix ONE (1) power height adjustment mechanism. Please note there are TWO (2) power height adjusters on each seat - one for the seat front and 1 for the seat back. This does not fix the power forward / aft or seat recline features.

This product fits all 2007-2013 GM Trucks with Power Seats, Including Escalade, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, and Denali.

Also fits these Fiat Chrysler Vehicles :
1996 – 2004 Jeep Cherokee / Grand Cherokee P/N 8-81902, 5709440, 8-82494, 5709790, 8-82496, 5709820
1995 - 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks
2002 - 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks
2002 - 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks

** Installation Instructions **

1. Access bottom of seat structure. This is easiest by removing power seat entirely from vehicle. Remove power seat bracket from bottom of seat bottom.

2. Remove the flexible drive shaft for the height adjustment drive box. You can pull the drive box away from the drive shaft slightly to gain the needed clearance. The flex drive shaft will fall out. Please be sure to mark the drive shafts if you are replacing both height gear sets as the drive shafts are different lengths.

3. Remove the Four (4) 1/4" screws holding each height adjustment drive box together. Remove and discard the plastic worm gear. Position the main spiral shaft with over-molded plastic spur gear such that the plastic spur gear can be cut off using a dremel wheel or similar.

4. Cut across the width of the plastic spur gear. Its OK to cut slightly into the underlying steel shaft. Wear eye protection ! Remove the old plastic spur gear and clean off the underlying steel shaft.

5. Using a 24 hour epoxy such as JB Weld, thoroughly coat the steel underlying shaft. Slowly thread on the new brass spur gear, wiping away any excess JB weld. Once the JB weld dries, it is extremely hard to remove so clean any excess epoxy. Position the new brass gear such that the metallic washer recess is facing the spirals, just like the OEM layout. There should be about .050" of main shaft exposed (not including shaft ball end) once new brass gear is installed. You can also look at the OTHER height mechanism and measure its gear placement.

6. Allow epoxy to fully cure per manufacturers instructions.

7 Reassembly is reverse of removal.

I'm gonna say no. I do have an issue with the GMT900 heated seats failing.

Any fixes in that area? It seem pretty common.

Ok are you guys interested in trying out the brass versions shown above ? I can get you a few free sets to try out, if you can report back and maybe get some install pics for me.
