1995 Chevy Tahoe trouble reading OBD1 data with laptop
Hi,
I have purchased an OBD1 ALDL cable to scan my 1995 Tahoe for detailed information about how each of the sensors are running, and check engine codes. I have done the paper clip trick to check engine codes manually (there were none) but I need more info to diagnose a rough idle problem I'm experiencing. The cable plugs into my laptop but I cannot get any data to show up in the software programs. I am using WinALDL and have tried other programs as well but no luck.
I have tested the cable to make sure data flows in to the laptop using other serial connections and it works. So at least I know the cable is good and the computer is listening.
Anybody have any experience getting one of these OBD1 scan tools to work on a laptop? It appears that the truck is not outputting data for the laptop to read.

Welcome to the forum.
I used Diacom on a laptop to diagnose a problem a few years ago. It work great. Monitors about 40 items and has a 30 sec memory that will show you what was happening before the fault occurred. Since it's OBD I, I have no need and will sell.

Thank you for your reply.
I have some software I have downloaded for free already. But I don't think it's the software that is the issue. I have tried opening HyperTerminal on the laptop to listen for data coming from the vehicle's OBD1 connector and no data shows up.
I am wondering if there is a difference with the 1995 OBD1 computers in a Chevy Tahoe? Or if there's something I need to do to get data start flowing?
The cable I purchased has a 10K OHM resistor that some vehicles require in order to start the data flow. This doesn't seem to make any effect when I jumper the 10K resistor on mine.
