2000 Tahoe brake question
#11
well, new calipers for the front arent expensive from the parts store, minus the damn core charge. i figure ill see if i just need to grease the things first, and if thats a no go then ill just replace the calipers. the rear calipers were replaced in october anyways. i just wanna be able to have a chance of stopping if someone cuts me off, cuz right now if that happens then ill be in an accident.

If your Clapper pistons were stuck, you'd have a high hard pedal, that was just locked up. (wouldn't depress like you say it does).
Also, it sounds like you might have a bad Booster.
There are two types which may apply to your ride.
A Standard, and a HydroBoost.

how would i know which type of booster i have? i know where the spo/rpo/whatever its called codes list is, assuming there is a code for that. its a 2000 burb with everything but leather and dvd.

hmmm. quick google search shows i most likely dont have the hydroboost. will have to check tomorrow. my search also said people have problems with that and the power steering...... sometimes when i turn left my ps pump groans a little but fluid is fine and looks good.

HydroBoost's are usually installed on those rides with a Towing Package.
But, just to be sure, when you're out and about, drop it by a Auto Parts Store, or even a Dealer, and let them verify which you have. No charge for looking at it...?

You got a problem with a Towing Package...
Better Shocks,
Dual Pistons on rear Clappers,
Some Spring advantages,
HydroBoost Brake Booster (most models),
Transmission Oil Cooler,
Higher capacity Alternator,
Installation of Receiver promotes structural stability to chassis,
Package increases value of ride.
Possibly more...
Not a dammit to me.

well that confirms i have the towing package. i have all those things haha
the only reason why i said dammit was its possibly more things to fix, seeing as this thing has 297k original miles

I thought 2500 series had hydroboost setups and 1500 series have vacuum boosters. there were a few exceptions with 6.oL engine packages in 1500 pu
typically, seized calipers won't retract and create a brake pull or roasted pad smell...the hydraulic system lines can contain 5000psi so the system can apply a seized caliper just won't release it.
