Default 2008 tahoe fuel pressure regulator

ive been noticing a fuel smell coming fro my 2008 tahoe. everything I read says to replace the fuel pressure regulator. i cant seem to locate it on the fuel rail. does anyone know where it is, or have any other suggestions?

It will be a steel, (silver looking) "wart" off the fuel rail. with a vacuum hose hooked to it. It is a regulator, it reduces the fuel pressure if that is too high. My encounters with that is it, has a hole in the diaphram, and drops the fuel pressure as to the engine won't idle.

regulator is in the fuel tank on this vehicle as it is a returnless fuel system.

is the check engine light on?
