5.3 liter harmonic balancer install
I could use some self assurance on installing my vibration damper to the crankshaft. Unlike older Chevy V-8s, the newer LS series small block crank does not have a keyed slot on the nose of the crankshaft. In reading instructions on the AlldataDIY engine remove and replace portion of their online manual, I have found no information as to if there is a correct way to place the vibration damper back on the crankshaft other than the amount of space there should be in the recess of the crankshaft nose to the face of the damper itself. According to the manual, you simply slide it on the crankshaft and work it back to the proper distance. My concern is, I am not able to find a timing mark on the crankshaft or the vibration damper. Does it matter and is the vibration damper just worked into place without regard to any particular timing mark? If there is a proper way to install the vibration damper with regard to timing I would appreciate any advise. Thanks
