97 burb a/c problem
i recently had my a/c recharged. then my discharge line out of my condenser started freezing over. it was still blowing cold air so i didnt mind the line being frozen. after a month my ac has completly locked up. my wife thought it to be ok to drive with the a/c button still on and now the clutch is making a very bad sound while the engine idles. the clutch is not engaged but it sounds like it ate the bearing. Will replacing the compressor solve the problem or is their another monster lurking in my condersor/ txv (thermal expansion valve)?
May I jump in here. I am new on this site and do not want to interfere. I just recently bought a 1996 Tahoe and it's AC is having problems. When I first got it, it's AC was cycling and no cooling. I added a can of Freon and it started cooling but kept cycling. After a few days I checked and it had stopped cooling again. I put a set of gages on it and the high side read low at 50 psi and the low side varied from 20 to 70 psi as the compressor comes on for 3-4 seconds and then cycles off for 10 seconds. I bled the low side off to 40 psi and the compressor comes on and continues to cycles on and off. I can press down on the red high pressure connector and the high side cycles from 100-150 psi. Can you make heads or tails of this problem with these symptoms?
In the front under the battery is an in line oriface tube. If it has rear a/c controls then it has rear air. If it has rear air that is controlled by an expansion valve located on the right side of the cargo area underneath all the trim.
