Engine Knock
Welcome to the forum,
It would be my guess that its probably lifters that are a bit dry on start up...
make sure you are using a quality oil filter that has a anti drain back (AC Delco preferred)
You could try changing to a blended oil part dino part synthetic for higher mileage engines
Some have had good luck performing an engine flush or using an additive to the oil, thou I prefer not to go this route as good routine maintenance (regular oil changes) should do the same.

Basshoggin, were you able to get something remedied with your engine knock? I too have an identical problem with my 2000 suburban with 125,000 miles. Mine started to do it at about 100,000 miles and 8 years old. I have been told that it is a common problem for chevrolet.
It is very common on the 5.3l. I have read that it comes from the piston skirts. It is normal and very common but doesn't hurt anything although its annoying. Mine has been doing it for more than 50K and hasn't changed.
