First Suburban here - and to-do list with questions!
Greetings and Happy New Year!
Chris here, from Sherman Oaks, just picked up a very clean 05 Suburban 1500LT 4x4 with a 5.3L V8 as a belated XMas gift from a relative.
Everything seems to work just fine, but a few squawks have presented themselves. I'm updating this post as more information comes in and the various issues either get resolved - or not:
a) voltmeter issue - resolved
b) there's a check stability light on and also there's a vibration from the front tires at low speeds - I think it's the tires - [UPDATE: changed tires, now running new Yokohama Geolanders]. It was started and the engine runs smoothly, but I don't think it was actually driven anywhere. Engine oil reads 60% but I haven't gong through and done the other fluids yet. I'll also try to get an error code out of it after I dig my OBD2 scanner out.
After changing the tires out, around 70% of the vibration has gone. There's still a little left, we'll see as the new tires seat in. The stability sensor might well be working properly. Otherwise the next culprit might be the steering position sensor?
FURTHER UPDATE: Hmmm. This seems to be happening between 20 and 40mph, more when accelerating but still noticeable when slowing down through that range. This only happens in the 2x4 mode. In 4x4 the vibrations are reduced a further 70-80 percent, almost unnoticeable in that speed range...
c) check tailgate fuse issue - resolved
d) tire pressure sensor has tripped - resolved
e) tail lights out. Check fuses, bulbs, getting to that immediately. UPDATE: Bulbs all check out fine, and all the mini blade fuses as well. Hmm.. Gonna get a Haynes manual next and go through everything part by part. UPDATE: Spoke to a mech and he's suggested disconnecting any trailer setup before proceeding further - apparently they can play havoc with all of this aft electrical system. Will comply and see what happens.
f) top third brake light out. Ditto. Yes, let's see what happens after the trailer electrics have been disconnected.
g) integrated flip key/remote blank - resolved!
Mostly minor stuff, I know, but it's nice to get confirmation from Those Who Have Gone Before.
I'm an intermediate wrench, have worked on a few of my cars before, including a G20 van, so would prefer to do most of this myself. However, if I'm venturing into a Dark Space unknowingly, and you've been there before, do please let me know!
Thank you all in advance!
All the best
Chris
