Map upload not successful
I have a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ. I purchased the navigation system map upgrade. My son read instructions (just said put the disc in slot) and he put the disc in the dvd player. It said the map upgrade had started, but I went to get gas and turned my truck off, then restarted and now there is an error message that says map upload failed, please try again or see manual. Sent the disc back to the company and they sent new ones. Put it in and nothing changed. The message never cleared from the screen and it has disabled my navigation system now. I am only able to use the radio, otherwise I have the error message on the screen. I have contacted the Infotainment System Customer Service and been on the phone for hours about this. One rep said that on my model truck, it was correct to place the disc in the dvd player. Called again and talked to another rep that told me I was given wrong information and there was a slot behind the radio that would be exposed when you go to menu>navigation>map operation data>then change disc However, I cannot access that menu or anything to do with the navigation system because of this error message. I also spent a couple hours on the line with Chevrolet technical support who told me that a dealership can reset the navigation system so that I can access the map upload slot.
I have taken my truck to TWO Chevrolet dealership service departments and neither of them knew what to do. One told me I needed a new disc and wouldn't discuss it at all with me. The second charged me $50 for called Chevrolet technical service, which I had already done. The tech service is actually who made the appointment at the second dealership and discussed with them what needed to be done. I have taken out the audio fuse, unattached the battery, and last night, I pulled the entire navigation unit out of the truck, unplugged everything and left it awhile, put it back, and nothing changed. My friend called around today and spoke with a Chevy dealership in Florida and apparently they have dealt with this before and said that a special machine was used to reset the navigation system and that every Chevy dealership should have one. I just do not know what else to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum.
Not sure why sticking the map DVD in the DVD player slot would brick your Nav but probably has something to do with starting and restarting while it was in there. Actually you should've gone to the menu and selected the option (it escapes at the moment) that causes the face to fold out, exposing the Nav DVD slot.
I suspect that the special machine referred to is a Tech II.
The map upgrade procedure is explained in the owner's manual for the Nav.

We were getting ready for a trip to PA to see my sister and I asked my 15 year old son to read the directions and install the update for me. He read the directions included with the update disc and the only information the instructions gave was to insert the disc into the slot. If I had known then what I know now, I would have researched how to do this. However, it is done and I cannot find anyone who can fix it.
