Default 97 Geo Hunting Buggy

Good Day Tracker Fans,

i have a 97 1.6 Litre 2 door w/ plastic roof.

On my last hunting trip my unit started make a grinding noise in 4WD when I put it under a load. It sounds like it might be the chain jumping cogs but after looking at it that doesn’t seem to the problem.

It does not happen in 2WD. Front CVs were just done, so it isn’t there. I beleive the problem lies in either the front diff or the Tcase.

Anyone have any insight here?

Something similar happened on my 4WD Tracker. The inner wheel bearing seal had gotten damaged during a front axle replacement. The inner wheel bearing got contaminated and over time was ground into pieces. The car ran fine in 2WD, but in 4WD the damaged wheel bearing made a loud popping sound.

Front inner wheel bearing.
