Help with charging system please.
I have an 2002 Tracker wirh a 2.0 liter and the battery went dead. I put a new battery in from NAPA but reading battery with a multi meter only shows battery voltage, looks like alternator wasn't charging battery so I ordered rebuilt alternator from Rock Auto and installed it but still no readings over battery voltage. I'm trying to locate where the fuse for the alternator is located but I can't find the fuse panel. Results from Google and other searches claim its under the dash on the drivers side of the instrument panel, but it's not there.Can some one steer me in the right direction? Thank You.
There are three fuses associated with the generator.
The 80A Battery fuse and 60A IG fuse are located in the fuse block under the hood.
The 20A IG fuse is located in the junction block on the left side of the driver's foot well.

I'm 75 years old been in the repair business my whole life but at this age it is difficult to crawl under the dash of a small car and search for a fuse panel. I find it is also harder trying to gather information in order to make the needed repairs. Thank you again for taking the time to present this information in a usable format. If your battery icon in the instrument panel is illuminated with the key in the ON position, all of your fuses are good. If the new generator is good then the only thing left is a bad cable/connection or your belt is slipping.
I pulled all of the fuses in the under hood fuse panel that weren't accessible to check with test light and did a continuity test on them and they all passed except the 80 amp engine fuse which I destroyed trying to get it out of the fuse panel to do continuity check on as it was the only fuse that had to be unbolted to remove. All the rest just pulled out as I expected. apparently they require the 80 amp to be bolted in due to higher amperage.. Installed a new 80 amp fuse, battery light was on in the dash with KOEO. Measured voltage at battery and was 12.6v. Started the engine and measured voltage at the battery again and had lower voltage than with engine off at 12.2v. Charge light was off until I turned on any accessory with high amp draw such as A/C or headlights on high beams at idle or raised RPM's . Checked out negative cable to engine 0 ohms, checked negative battery to block of engine and chassis ground, all 0 ohms I'm wondering where the 10 gauge wire on back of generator hooks to 12v + battery cable. I'm used to seeing them hook up at the starter on large trucks but unsure on small cars? If I can't find anything wrong with wiring or connections I will pull the generator and have bench tested tomorrow. Not sure what I should be reading on two prong plug that plugs into back of generator. I think it should be a square sine wave from computer?, but I don't have O scope. I will also check for voltage drop from battery to 10 gauge wire on back of generator and continuity check from batt neg to case of generator, Belt is nice and tight due to tensioner and no noise at all. I have a code reader and will pull codes tomorrow also.
There is no generator connection to the PCM. The voltage regulator is internal to the generator. The red lines in the diagram above indicate the path for the rotor coil current will determines how much voltage the generator produces. The transistor inside the regulator produces the square wave. The 10 gauge wire on back of generator hooks to the 80 amp BATT fuse. The signal on pin 2 of the generator plug should be 12 volts with the key ON. Pin 1 supplies the ground to illuminate the battery icon in the instrument panel.
