Need to figure out Headlamp Issue
Alright, I have a 2000 Chevy Tracker 2-Door, RWD with the small engine. We had the car sitting for a few months due to some starter issues and when we got it back up and running, the headlights don't always work. Here's the problem I am running into:
1. If you pull back on the column light switch, the lights always come on.
2. If you turn the column switch, you can get running lights, but not the headlights
3. The lights randomly do go on just driving around as I can see them reflecting in other cars, however, if I stop and look for it I can never see it. Verified that it's not just the angle of the sun at the time and I have yet to see them go off or on as I am driving.
4. I've replaced the headlamp relay and no change.
5. Turn signals and running lights appear to be in working order.
Now, it seems to me that it is just the switch on the column light switch that has gone bad, however the change requires me to replace the entire ignition assembly, which seems excessive. Is that my only option, or are there other things I need to check?
