Default Power steerring

I have a 1991 tracker and the steering is becoming tough and does not return to centre after turning a corner. Would this be a failing power steering pump? The power steering does not go down in fluid Is there something else it could be that I need to look at.

You need to connect a power steering pressure tester to the pump to see if it puts out sufficient pressure.

Yeah, a worn-out steering gear unit would be my guess. You have a vehicle that is over 31 years old. You need to replace the steering box. Trackers were not meant to last as long as your vehicle has, so far. Consider yourself lucky and not in the dumps.

Thanks for the answers. My tracker has 273000 km on it and still going strong. Uses maybe a 1/4 litre of oil in 2000 km.

Not bad at all, considering it's age and mileage!
