Default Serpentine belt too tight to bolt on tensioner

2003 ZR2 Tracker 2.5l V6. Today I replaced the fan belt and the serpentine belt. I had to completely remove the tensioner for the serpentine belt to get the old one off, and when I put the new one on I could only get the pivot bolt in for tensioner. However the belt is tight and in place and the car is running properly. I dont understand what the issue is. I bought the belt that is specific for models with air conditioning. Any ideas?

I had this problem with my 2001 V6. The part stores call out a 42.5" belt. This size is too small. The belt that actually fits is 43 inches.
