Tracker1989-2004
This compact SUV proved itself to be a fine ecnomical vehicle, good for making its way along any type of surface. Platform: CAMI (Suzuki)
not a tracker but other gm products. Having a tech 2 by itself will not allow you to program a pcm. You need access to a gm cloud based server or must buy a very expensive subscription. The programming is gm proprietory information...they don't give it away. Your best bet is to have a gm dealer do the programming. Most shops charge 1 hour labour time.
In 2001 the Chevy service manual said the PCM could only be reprogrammed using the Pass Through method. I'm assuming this was because the early Tech 2 scanners only had 10 MB of memory. I'm also assuming the advent of the 32 MB module made this warning obsolete. I know first hand the PCM calibration from the TIS2000 disc will upload to the Tech 2. The logical inference is that the PCM can now be programmed using the Remote method. I'm looking for someone who has actually reprogrammed a Tracker PCM using the Remote method to verify my assumptions.
No way to know unless you try it. I have done some old cars with mdi programming and it has worked...others it was to fast and the pass thru with r232 cables were required
I may have found the answer to my question in an old Tech 2 training video. The original 10 MB version of the Tech 2 did not offer Service Programming System (SPS) as an option. It looks like the Tech 2 was only a pass through device between the vehicle and the Techline Terminal in the early days (1997). SPS is the option that allows remote programming so without it the pass through method would have been the only method available. That's the most likely reason my 2001 manual says pass through must be used. I am confident the newer Tech 2's will program the Tracker PCM using the remote method. There has only been one minor calibration upgrade since my Tracker rolled of the production line. But since my vehicle is running fine I'm not going risk turning it into a four-wheel brick for such an insignificant reason.
How to use GM Tech2 with tis2000 to do PCM programming
